Odoo Experience Africa 2026: The Real Story Wasn't Odoo 20;

Every technology conference promises the future. Few actually change how you think about it.

Walking away from Odoo Experience Africa 2026, our team kept returning to the same conversation.

Yes, Odoo 20 is an impressive release.

The AI capabilities have matured significantly. VoIP now allows businesses to record and transcribe customer interactions. Website creation has become dramatically simpler. Payroll

What if the biggest announcement wasn't Odoo 20 at all?

Africa Isn't Waiting for Technology. It's Demanding Better Technology.

For years, technology companies have looked at Africa as an emerging market. That perspective is becoming outdated.

Africa has one of the youngest and fastest-growing workforces in the world. Mobile money has changed how millions transact. Businesses are scaling faster, regulations are evolving, and digital adoption continues to accelerate.

The challenge is no longer convincing businesses to digitize. The challenge is building systems that understand Africa: multiple tax regimes, local payroll legislation, country-specific compliance, mobile money ecosystems, credit infrastructure.

Businesses don't need software that simply works. They need software that works in Africa.

One of the encouraging themes throughout Odoo Experience Africa was seeing how the platform continues moving towards that reality while remaining open enough to integrate with the technologies African businesses already rely on.

AI has moved beyond the buzzword stage

For the past few years, AI has dominated conference agendas.

This year felt different. The conversations were less about what AI might do one day and more about what it is already doing today.

Automatically summarizing customer conversations. Helping users interact naturally with business data. Generating website content. Reducing repetitive administrative work.

These aren't futuristic concepts anymore. They're practical productivity tools.

The businesses that benefit most from AI won't necessarily be the ones with the biggest budgets. They'll be the ones willing to rethink how work gets done.

ERP is not the destination; it's part of the journey

An observation that became increasingly clear as we reflected on the event;

Businesses don't invest in ERP because they want ERP. They invest because they want visibility, better decisions, fewer manual processes, better customer experiences, sustainable growth, and technology is simply the vehicle.

Success largely depends on understanding the business before configuring the software. That's a lesson every implementation reminds us of.

The Most Valuable Lesson Didn't Come From a Product Demo

One session was outstanding.

Vusi Thembekwayo shared a story about buying french fries with his son that eventually ended with him buying an entire family meal.

His point was simple: people rarely buy everything you offer on the first conversation. They buy the first problem you solve exceptionally well.

For consultants, that means resisting the temptation to demonstrate every capability.

For businesses, it means finding partners who understand the problem before proposing the solution.

Trust isn't built by showing everything. It's built by solving something that matters.

The Future Looks Different

If there was one message we carried home from Odoo Experience Africa 2026, it was this:

The future of ERP won't be defined by the number of new features released each year.

It will be defined by how effectively businesses combine technology, people and good decision-making to create lasting competitive advantage.

Odoo 20 represents another important step in that journey.

But the real opportunity lies with African businesses willing to rethink how they operate, embrace intelligent automation, and build organisations that are ready for the next decade—not just the next software update.

Because digital transformation has never been about implementing software. It's about building businesses that are ready for what's next.
